The big future for 3D Printers will probably include kids like Riley Lewis and Vernon Bussler (right and left, respectively, in the accompanying photo).

Riley and Vernon are eighth graders who are right into the world of 3D design and print.

3D Systems to unveil Cubify

3D Systems corporation plans to unveil its 3D software for creating designs for 3D printing on mobile devices, tablets and Kinect.

Along with the intuitive 3D apps, a personal printer, the Cube 3D Printer, has been specifically designed to turn any digital canvas to a physical model.  Priced at US$1,299, the printer is ready to print right out of the box in a wide range of vibrant colours.    

The Cube 3D printer will be fully commercialised during the first half of 2012 – so keep an eye of this space.

Ernst & Young National Entrepreneur of the Year Event

This weekend was the final awards ceremony for the Ernst & Young National Entrepreneur of the Year, a program that celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2011. As the world’s most prestigious business award for entrepreneurs we were honored when Abe Reichental and Chuck Hull took top honors as the regional winners for the Carolina’s over the summer.  After being named one of the top 40 finalists across the nation.

Department Store Goes 3D Printing

During the 3 crazy annual sales days at the biggest Netherlands department chain store, consumers get a smell of 3D Printing possibilities.


This is the first time 3D printers have been sold at consumer markets with this kind of exposure, so it was exciting to see FOC, who are part of the 3D Systems group, making it possible.  1.2 million people visited the stores during the last weekend of September and 3 million people visited the online store.  Click on the video image to see how it went.



3D Printing: What You Need to Know

For many people, 3D printing is thought to be a new type of document or photo copying printer.  Adding to this confusion is that 3D printers are now reducing in size and cost, often bearing a resemblance to today’s office photocopier.   

To put it simply, digital files are first created using a CAD (computer aided design) program or 3D scanner to build physical objects on a 3D printer.  The files are uploaded to a 3D printer in which material (plastic, metal or other) is laid down layer by layer, to form a 3-dimensional object, this is the manufacturing process.  Continue reading…
