3D Systems' was founded in 1986 to commercialize a new manufacturing process called Stereolithography (SLA®). The SLA process quickly builds complex parts directly from CAD data without tooling, which makes it invaluable for rapid prototyping, rapid tooling and rapid manufacturing.
After the successful launch of SLA, two complimentary additive manufacturing processes - Selective Laser Sintering, SLS®, and Selective Laser Melting, SLM - were added to 3D Systems’ portfolio. Production Printers based on these processes offer customers high throughput, large part capability, outstanding part accuracy and a wide variety of print materials. Today, parts built on these Production Printers are used by nearly every major product development company in the world.
