Medical Device Prototypes

Challenge:

Lymphease is a patented medical device for the self-administered treatment of Lymphoedema. Lymphease was developed for CT Healthcare Pty Ltd with the help of Proen Design and Professor Neil Piller at Flinders University.

Proen required prototypes during the product development stages that would look, feel and perform like the real thing. The design was made up of several mating components, including a rubberised handle grip, clear plastic lens and cradle.

Solution:

Using SLA technology to create the master models, in conjunction with silicone tooling and advanced vacuum casting, we were able to produce accurate polyurethane prototypes featuring rubber over-mould handle in a bright pink.

During the moulding process, all parts were colour matched to the customers request, with graphics applied to the pink handle and cradle.

Result:

The prototypes allowed the customer to not only validate the CAD, but also perform “hands on” design verification of the form, fit and function of the parts. Their customer also evaluated the colour aesthetics of the product and undertake overseas marketing to communicate the product design and generate sales interest.
